VoIP Gateway vendor opens office as Asia-Pacific get set to follow the US
VoIP market

9th March 2005

London, UK, 9th March 2005: VegaStream, the leading vendor of dedicated business VoIP (Voice over IP) Gateways, today announced the opening of an Asia Pacific office in Sydney as a result of its growing local customers and partners in the region. The office will be staffed by industry veterans Anthony Wong who has been appointed as VP Asia Pacific and Chris Papaioanou who will take on the position of South Pacific Sales & Marketing Director. Together the pair has a combined industry expertise of over 50 years.

As part of the company's expansion, VegaStream also plans to build its channel network in Asia Pacific and is in the process of appointing channel partners.

"The VoIP industry in the region is on the edge of taking off and now with local presence in the region, VegaStream is primed to be a part of it," said South Pacific Sales & Marketing Director at VegaStream, Chris Papaioanou. "It is also important that VegaStream establishes its credentials with local partners hence we will be working to build a strong local channel. Having recently moved into India, the office opening in Sydney marks an exciting time for VegaStream and furthers our global expansion."

"According to Gartner Asia/Pacific enterprise telephony adoption rates will be among the highest in the world after North America. Gartner estimates that in the region traditional PBX extensions will fall from 98 percent of the installed base in 2003 to 27 percent in 2008. IP extensions will rise from 5 percent to 38 percent." said VegaStream CEO Tim Burne. "This accelerated demand for VoIP technology has fast tracked VegaStream's growth in the region and created the need for a local office. With an Asia Pacific presence, VegaStream will increase its commitment to local customers and ensure closer, more effective support for its partners and customers."

One of the earliest suppliers of VoIP gateways, VegaStream's portfolio of gateways are based on SIP and H.323 standards and are interoperable with all leading PBX industry and vendor standards. The award winning gateways are targeted at Service Providers, enterprises of all sizes and home users and recognised as best-in-class SIP VoIP gateways for products such as Nortel Networks MCS5100, MCS5200 and Siemens OpenScape.
