VegaStream announces first ever VoIP gateway with support
for North American ISDN BRI to deliver VoIP calls for US Navy

VegaStream, a leading supplier of dedicated business VoIP
(Voice over IP) Gateways, today announced a contract from the
US Navy to supply its Vega 50 BRI VoIP Gateways to the Naval
Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division of US Naval Air
Systems Command.

In the absence of any existing VoIP gateways able to support the
required North American ISDN BRI protocols, the US Navy
selected VegaStream because of its ability to modify its existing
ETSI-compliant Vega 50 BRI gateways that are already widely
deployed in service provider and enterprise networks across
Europe. With nearly 2 million ISDN BRI lines deployed in the US,
the Vega 50 BRI will be the only VoIP Gateway on the market
supporting both SIP and North American ISDN BRI standards.

"Legacy ISDN networks in the US have been neglected by
vendors for too long and were in danger of being forced down an
unnecessary 'end-of-life' path because of a lack of renewed
innovation in the industry," said Tim Burne, CEO, VegaStream.
"There are businesses and organisations across North America
which, like the NAVAIR Training Systems Division, are looking to
IP-based products to not only make their existing infrastructure
work better, but also help improve the way they do their jobs.
We're delighted to be working with the US Navy to develop what
will be the world's first VoIP gateway to support both SIP and
North American BRI standards. It's a testament to both our
existing product portfolio and the responsiveness of VegaStream
to innovate and develop products that address today's customer

The new Vega 50 BRI VoIP gateways will be delivered to the US
Naval Air Systems Command in Q2 2004 and will support required
North American ISDN standards. General commercial availability
of the gateways for the North American market, which are an
extension of VegaStream's established Vega 50 BRI gateways
supporting the European ETSI standards and already widely
deployed in service provide and enterprise networks, will be in
Q3 2004.
